How to Convert a Form Template into HTML

You have an idea for a web form, but aren’t sure how to create it. Or, you have a form that you’ve already designed, but don’t know how to code it. In either case, you’re in luck because this guide will tell you everything you need to know to create an HTML form similar to your original idea or design.

The Importance of Learning HTML and CSS

Just because you have a form doesn’t mean that you have to limit yourself to creating an email-style contact form. HTML and CSS can be used to create any kind of form you might need including quizzes, polls, event registrations, or even a fun game where users can compete for prizes.

Learning HTML and CSS will not only allow you to create amazing forms, but will also teach you how to build a website. No matter what kind of project you’re working on — be it a blog, a website, or even an app — knowing HTML and CSS will come in really handy, as you’ll be able to make changes to the design of your project whenever you want.

Step 1: Get Inspired

In order to create an HTML form, you first need to get inspired by something or someone. This step will help you figure out what type of form you want to create, as well as provide you with the basic coding needed to build it. You can find tons of inspiration online, as well as through libraries and galleries that focus on displaying art and design.

It’s important to note here that no matter what you choose as your starting point, you can take this form and make it feel unique and special. You can choose to represent something as simple as a person’s name and email address, or you can add some more detail and make it a fun little game where users can answer trivia questions about the Disney characters they’ve met.

Step 2: Determining How You’ll Code It

When choosing which tool to use to create the form, you need to consider how you’ll code it. There are many benefits to using a code editor, such as Sublime Text or Visual Studio Code. These tools allow for seamless navigation between multiple files and allow you to code and compile your form while you work. If you’re not sure what tool to use, either one of these should be relatively easy to learn and implement.

Step 3: Create The Form

Once you have your starting point, you can begin to create the form. This step will be similar to creating any other piece of HTML or CSS, however, you’ll want to take a little bit more time with this one. Especially if it’s your first time creating a form, it might be a good idea to take some time to plan out how you want the form to look before you begin coding it.

For the purposes of this tutorial, we’ll be using the free website, but any form builder should be able to provide you with what you need to complete this step. Once you’ve finished creating the form, you can submit it to be tested…and hopefully signed up for.

Step 4: Test It

Once you’ve submitted your form to be tested, you’ll receive an email containing a link to the results of your form. At this point, you can test it to ensure everything is correct, and make any necessary changes. Once you’ve fixed the issues the form creator highlights, you can click the “resubmit” button to have the form be redistributed into a new version for review.

After you’ve resubmitted the form and tested it, you’ll receive an email once more with a link to the updated form. At this point, you can feel confident that your work is done and that you’ve created an amazing form that can be used by anyone for their own purposes.

Step 5: Finalize The Design

Now that you have a functioning form, it’s time to bring it to the final stage of its creation. This stage is similar to the previous step, however, at this point you’ll be adding more detail and polish to the design. If you’re happy with the result of your work, you can feel free to move onto the next step.

This step is more for designers who want to add a bit more flair to their design. However, if you’re happy with the end product, then you can simply continue straight to the next step.

Step 6: Deploy It

Once you’ve finished adding all the special elements you want to be included in your form, it’s time to deploy it. This step will be different for everyone depending on what platform they’re using. For PC users, it’s a simple as copying the final version of your HTML form into a new folder and uploading it to a hosting service like Google Drive or Amazon S3.

For Mac users, it’s a little more complicated because you need to do some research on how to properly code the form. Once you’ve done that, you can follow the same process as above to get the final product uploaded to a hosting service.
