Creating a form on your website can be a great way to increase traffic and generate leads. You can use tools like AWeber to create and send out personalized emails to potential customers seeking info about your product or service. But if you want to add a form to your website for the sake of adding a form, there are a few simple steps you can follow.
Pick A Website Themed For Your Form
When you’re deciding where to add your form, it’s important to consider the website theme you’ll use for it. The background color, font style, and layout of your site will impact the look of your form. So, take a little time to think about what kind of look you want for your site and select a form theme that compliments it. In addition to picking a form that compliments your website, you should also pick a form that is simple and easy to use. There are hundreds of form builders available on the market, so you don’t have to limit yourself to just one design.
Create The Form
With AWeber, you’ll want to start by creating a form for people to fill out. Since you’re using a pop-up window, you’ll want to make sure that the window isn’t too small. If it’s too small, people won’t be able to enter their information easily.
When you fill out the form, you’ll have the option of either having the information emailed to you immediately or having it stored in a database for later access. If you’d like, you can even set up automated emails to send to people after they fill out the form. This is a great option for people who want to receive email confirmations quickly (like me!).
When you’ve created your form, you can add it to your website by pasting the code below into the HTML area of your site.
This will automatically display the form you created on your site.
Add Other Necessary CSS And JS Files
Depending on what kind of form you’re creating, you might also want to include other necessary CSS and javascript files. For example, if you’re creating a contact form, you might want to include the CSS file of the form and the javascript file that handles the sending of the forms. You can find these files by going to the documentation for your form builder (like AWeber) and looking at the included files.
Use The Right Popup Window
One of the most important things to consider when adding a form to your website is choosing the right popup window. There are four things you’ll want to check when choosing a popup:
- the width
- the position
- the height
- the style
For the first two items, you’ll want to make sure that the popup is at least a few pixels wider and taller than the form that’s being displayed in it. This will ensure that the content inside the popup is still visible and that it doesn’t move when the user resizes the browser window.
The last item, style, is something you’ll want to consider. There are hundreds of different styles of popups available, so instead of picking one and limiting yourself to using it only for forms, you can use this to your advantage and find a style that suits your needs.
Avoid Too Many Jumps
If you’ve ever used a pop-up window in your web design, you know how annoying it can be when the user has to constantly click the Back button in their browser to get back to where they were before the popup appeared. Since you’re already using a popup, try to avoid putting other important content in it because it will make the popup even more difficult to use.
Use The Right DNS For Your Domain
Another item to consider when adding a form is using the right DNS for your domain. If you don’t know what DNS is, it’s time to find out. The DNS stands for “Domain Name System,” and it is a set of rules that allow websites and online services to be found by users.
When you use a DNS service to point your domain to your website, your domain will follow a similar set of rules to those used by Google and other major internet services. When a user finds your site using a DNS search, they’ll see a small snippet of text, usually up to three sentences, that provides basic information about your site. They won’t see any images or videos on your site because those items aren’t publicly accessible on the internet. They’ll simply see a description of what your site is about.
To find out what DNS your domain name is currently using, navigate to your domain name‘s DNS settings page in your web browser. You’ll want to change the DNS to one of the top 4 service providers by entering their domain and checking the boxes of the preferred services.
Add A Funnel Step
If you’ve ever bought a product or service and were presented with a variety of different options, you’ll know what a pain point this can be. Especially if you’re buying something online as you’ll see countless different sites promoting the same product or service, making it very difficult to know which one to choose. This is where funnels come in.
A funnel is a step-by-step process that guides a visitor through your site. The idea behind funnels is to reduce the amount of time and guesswork that comes with researching and comparing various products or services. When a user lands on your website, they’ll see a small blurb about what you have to offer followed by a bolded link that takes them to the first step of your funnel. The link or buttons leading to the other steps of your funnel should be placed at the very end of the blurb to ensure that people have read the short description before clicking away.
To add a funnel to your site, paste the code below into the HTML area of your site:
This will automatically add a step to the end of the form. If the user clicks the Next Step link or button, they’ll be brought to the next step of the funnel.
