One of the questions I get asked the most lately is “How can I become a closet marketer?”
To be honest, there’s no easy answer to that. Being a closet marketer is a lot of work and it takes a LOT of time. You have to be committed to doing whatever it takes to succeed.
So before you begin your journey, make sure you’re ready. Do you have what it takes to succeed?
Let’s dive into the different aspects you need to consider so you can begin your career in California Closets.
Education
Inevitably, you’ll be asked for your educational background. You’ll usually hear something like “Have you graduated from college?” or “Did you complete your education?”
While it would be wonderful if all wardrobe consultants had a degree in wardrobe science, that isn’t necessarily the case. If you’re asking “Have you graduated from college?”, you should be able to tell that the person you’re talking to isn’t necessarily an expert in wardrobe science. But that doesn’t matter. All you need is a desire to learn and the guts to do whatever it takes to succeed.
If you have a general education and some job experience, you’re perfectly situated to begin a career in wardrobe science. However, if you’re wondering about completing your education, you might want to consider getting a degree in business or fashion. Those are the fields where you’ll find the most job opportunities.
Work Experience
Depending on where you’re applying, you’ll need to include your work experience. For example, if you’re applying for a marketing job, you’ll need to include your work experience in marketing. So if you’re wondering how to become a closet marketer, start by including your experience in working in a retail environment. That will help you sell yourself as a competent professional.

Lifestyle
If you want to become a full-time wardrobe consultant, you’ll have to consider how you want to live your life. Do you want a family soon? Are you willing to relocate?
All of those questions factor into what kind of lifestyle you want to lead. If you want to be a full-time consultant, you’ll have to be willing to accept that you’re not going to be able to live the same kind of life as you do now. A lot of people get overwhelmed by the idea of having a family and can’t commit to doing what it takes to make their dream come true. So they don’t end up living the kind of life they want and instead end up doing something more stable. That’s why I recommend getting pre-approved for a loan.
What kind of lifestyle are you looking for? Are you willing to make the necessary sacrifices to live the life you want?
If You Want To…
…work in the fashion industry, you’ll need to consider where you want to work. Do you want to work in a traditional retail environment or are you looking for a more creative outlet? How about owning your own boutique or creating your own fashion brand?
Those are all options if you want to work in the fashion industry. If you decide owning your own boutique is what you want to do, you’ll have to learn a lot. You’ll have to learn how to take care of employees, run a cash register, manage your inventory, etc.
Similarly, if you decide you want to create your own fashion brand, you’ll have to learn a lot about licensing, trademarks, and fashion law. You could start by setting up a website and creating a lookbook. That way you can show clients what you can do and get an idea of the legalities involved with creating your own fashion brand.
There are a lot of aspects you need to consider if you want to succeed as a closet marketer. Just ensure you’re ready to do whatever it takes to make your dreams a reality.
